You can use most of these plug-ins in other host programs too like Adobe Photoshop, CC, Elements, Apple Aperture, iPhoto, Corel PaintShop Pro, PhotoImpact, Serif PhotoPlus, and IrfanView. The Photography Collection also includes their Image editor PhotoFXlab that allows you to use all these plugins either from Adobe Lightroom or as a stand-alone application. This collection includes all of Topaz Labs’ highly regarded plug-ins: Clarity, B&W Effects, Adjust, Lens Effects, ReMask, Detail, Simplify, InFocus, DeNoise, Clean, and DeJPEG. It also includes more creative effect plug-ins like Star Effects, Simplify, and ReStyle. An excellent free vector program is Inkscape. The Complete Topaz Photography Collection from Topaz Labs consists of a suite of 13 plug-ins, as well as an intuitive standalone navigational application. Import the "Simply" image into Illustrator with the right parameters and you should be able to get a vector image that you can enlarge to any size without ziggies between the different colors. You can get a similar effect by using Simplify but it will not be a vector shape. Simplifys cartoon preset goes in this direction but doesn't come close to what Duran was pointing to.Ĭould I just mention that vectorizing is for specialised software, I have a drawing programme that will create vectors (Serif Draw) and Adobe Illustrator will create Vectors! But Topaz will only work in raster (bitmap) image format!Ī vector image is one created using mathematical formulae to create geometric shapes which can be enlarged or reduced in size without loss of clarity or definition. You need to jump in and try, try, try.Īgree. With all the tools we have today, being good is much easier, but being great requires the skills to apply the proper tools to achieve the desired result. I don't think there are any software programs that are instant solutions. They all use a variety of tools to achieve their objectives. Not sure if that's what you are about, though.ĭennis Larson DuranPhotog: After following this thread, I think what you are seeing are the results of skilled graphics artists at work. Here a link to a video (about 4 min) where a guy turns a portrait of himself and his girlfriend in to a "cartoon" using vector techniques.į/2009/11/turn-yourself-into-cartoon. A quick search of "vectorized portraits" in Flickr revealed a ton of styles. Jorge, thanks for all the wonderful info!ĭuranPhotog Could you expand your request a bit, and maybe offer up some links to what you are seeking. My personal favorite is this one, I don’t like the result… but the information is great and using it in your own workflow is amazing: And finally, check out the simplify tutorials here: drawing/create-a-complete-vexel-image-us. Now, if you want to get into this without Illustrator or Topaz (which, of course can make your life easier or get better results), then you can follow this tutorials: He has this amazing action to create cartoons and if you mix the results with some of the following tutorials, you can get the perfect result. If money is not a problem, I suggest too the actions from a good and known friend: Panos From there, jump into clean to add any effect and finally in photoshop boost colors. Then I would use Simplify, to create the lines and color sketch. It is not impossible to do it in photoshop, but difficult and time consuming… the same will be true using Topaz plug ins.įor something like this, I would first, start with a strong denosing to kill detail and really, actually, smooth the picture. What you are showing, is mostly done by professionals with Illustrator. As usual, you need to, first have them, then understand them play with them and get experience. Jack Torcello edited this topic ages ago.Īll Topaz plug-ins are a marvelous set of tools. I also saw a web video tut detailing a procedure - its after the car.! :) can make an easy start - no Topaz in sight - I recommend I've had a bit of luck with clean then just a touch of adjust to make it a little bolder. Why not experiment pushing this one with topaz clean, i think it's a prime candidate. It shows some cool ones here but does not say how to do them Maybe just read the links you just posted, they explain it pretty well.Ĭan anyone share something this vector/cartoon like that they have used topaz for? Skysimonephotography edited this topic ages ago. So can you summarize in short for me what each of the main topaz ones do best? Nobody finds it easy, and everyone learns by trial and error, however many tutorials you look at. I see this brilliant stuff done in 'clean' but i can't figure out how to do it. Looking to do this sort of thing and believing topaz will help me!
